da stake casino: Speaking on the latest episode of The Molineux View podcast (March 17), The Athletic’s Wolves correspondent Tim Spiers has provided an update on what the current situation means for striker Patrick Cutrone.
What did he say?
da jogodeouro: Well, of course the 22-year-old is currently on loan with Serie A outfit Fiorentina, and it was confirmed over the weekend that he was a player who had tested positive for Coronavirus in Italy.
As well as the attacker being affected, football fixtures have also been postponed all across Europe, with the Premier League due to resume on April 3 as things stand – although that looks likely to change.
Asked about what this all means for Wolves’ out-on-loan stars, Spiers said (15:24): “Well, it’s written into the contract that they’ve got to play a certain number of games. So, at the moment, Cutrone is an option to buy, and it becomes an obligation if he plays a certain number of games. That’s written into his contract, and I don’t see that changing.”
He added (16:19): “You’d expect there’d be some kind of widespread temporary law to extend contracts until the end of the season, which would be Europewide.”
For true Wolves fans only: How much did each of these players cost?
Will he leave Wolves?
It’s a difficult one.
As Spiers mentions, Fiorentina have the option to buy Cutrone permanently should he not meet the required number of matches to make it an obligation.
From their point of view, the 22-year-old scoring once and assisting one more in nine appearances for them to date probably isn’t the greatest record.

Of course, if the respective seasons do end up getting cancelled rather than resumed at a later date, this could also have an affect on the potential deal as it would likely mean that an obligatory deal is no longer possible, dependent on what is decided about loan moves.
There are a lot of ifs and buts at the moment, but as far as Spiers is concerned he doesn’t see the situation changing for Cutrone right now.
