da bwin: According to reports in The Sun, Southampton and Stoke City have joined the list of clubs interested in signing Everton winger Henry Onyekuru, who is yet to play a single minute for the Toffees.
What’s the word, then?
da dobrowin: Well, The Sun says that the Premier League duo have joined Fiorentina, Juventus, Manchester United and Barcelona in keeping tabs on the 20-year-old, who has impressed on loan at Anderlecht this term.
The Merseyside outfit won the race to sign the Nigeria international from KAS Eupen during the summer transfer window, but they sent him straight back to Belgium as they weren’t able to get a work permit for him.
How well has Onyekuru done?
After scoring 30 goals and providing a further 11 assists in 60 appearances in all competitions for Eurpen, the forward has carried that form on to Anderlecht.
The 20-year-old has netted eight times in 21 outings, while he has shown some of the glimpses of the quality he has in Champions League appearances against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.
Would Everton really want to cash in on him?
You wouldn’t think so, no.
The Nigeria international is highly-rated and the Merseyside outfit would have been delighted to win the race for the winger in the summer, and they will want him in their struggling side as soon as possible.
While the likes of Juventus, Manchester United and Barcelona could tempt the 20-year-old to move on, it would take a big fee to prise him away from Goodison Park.
Are Southampton and Stoke wasting their time?
In a word, yes.
Not only would Everton be unlikely to sell Onyekuru either in the New Year or next summer, they certainly wouldn’t want to let him join a club like Southampton or Stoke City, who are two of their direct Premier League rivals as it stands.
